584 posts · Joined 2002. #4 · Jul 28, 2004. if you are talking about the axleshaft-to-hub nut, you could torque it to 300lb-ft. if you wanted, and not screw up the bearing pre-load. all the nut does is attach the axleshaft to the hub flange. the bearings are unit-bearings. the pre-load is not adjustable. don't worry about killing the bearings
the wj was able to handle the load and i only went 20mph max but i felt the wind. since it was sheet rock the cross rails don't matter but i still had then on were OK but the weight was evenly distributed all the rails. as long as you tie it down right and don't go nuts you should be ok but dont try anything over 180 lbs
